CM — Core Mathematics
The CM series forms the mathematical foundation of the actuarial Core Principles stage. These two subjects train you to model, value, and reserve for financial and insurance cash flows — skills that underpin virtually every later specialist exam. CM1 builds the deterministic toolkit — interest theory and life contingencies. CM2 then extends that thinking into a stochastic, market-based world — modelling investment risk, pricing derivatives, and reserving for general insurance liabilities. Together, they’re where you build the modelling instincts you’ll rely on for the rest of your actuarial career.
